Living Life (13) Testimony — Sean Kim
Hi everyone, My name is Sean Kim and I’m here today to talk a little bit about my experience with the Living Life Class.
I was a bit hesitant to take the course at first – when I learned that it was going to take me 13 weeks to complete, with homework every single week and a final exam at the end of the course, it all seemed too overwhelming for me at the time. But as I reflected upon what God has done for me, especially over the last 3-4 years, I felt it was the right time for me to get to know God on a deeper level and to learn more about the Bible at the same time.
I was also very thankful that my shepherd took the course with me and it was great to have that moral support every week.
I didn’t grow up in a typical Christian household. My dad attended Catholic Church when he was younger and my mom was neither here or there when it came to her religious beliefs. It wasn’t until the last few years of her life that she started to go to church. My two sisters were devoted Christians and I was like the black sheep of the family. When I did go to church occasionally, it was to play on the softball team, it was to go out for lunches after the service and it was to figure out when the next social gathering was going to be. When it came down to Bible Study Groups, I quickly steered myself out of those conversations, often making excuses so that I wouldn’t have to attend them.Fast forward to about 5 or 6 years ago when my family was first invited to join our house church group – and I remember feeling very reluctant at that time as well. The thought of sharing our personal life stories with a bunch of people that I didn’t know didn’t sound very appealing to me at the time and it wasn’t exactly what I wanted to do on a Friday night. Still, I kept an open mind and decided to give it a shot. I’m so thankful that I did that because it was at that time everything started to change for me. It was through these house church gatherings that I started to experience my prayer requests being answered. This was another reason why I decided to take the course – it was to build upon and deepen my relationship with God.
One of the things that really stood out for me from this course was learning about all of the miracles that Jesus performed and it was at that moment that I started connecting the dots to all the miraculous and incredible things that God has done for me in my life. I think about how God has given me so much more peace in my work life, I think about how God helped me get through some of the most difficult and challenging times emotionally and physically earlier this year for me and I think about the time when my family went bike riding at Niagara on the Lake and my younger son, Ethan, fell off his bike hurting himself. Out of nowhere came this man, not once but twice, to check up on how Ethan was doing and provided us with all the medical supplies we needed for us to be able to continue our bike ride. I think Ethan summarized it best by calling this man an angel that God sent to help him. I’m a firm believer that everything good or bad happens for a reason, and while I may not realize or understand the why at the time, God has always been there for me in the end with positive outcomes.
I still have long ways to go in my walk of faith, but if there’s two things that I walked away with is that it’s taught me to always be thankful, even when things don’t always go the way we want them to, God is always with us. It’s also taught me the power of prayer and that I can have a conversation with my Heavenly Father on just about anything and everything. Looking back it was a tough 13 weeks, but it was time well spent. I feel that I am in a far better place in my Christian life today than I ever was prior to taking the class.
Thank you for listening.
