28. Don't get stressed

I have read an article saying that primary cause for major sickness is “stress”, especially in this modern world that we live in. As our lives become more and more fast-paced and result-driven, we tend to get stressed easily, many times without being conscious of it.

There is a disease named “Auto-immune disease”. It is body’s immune cells attacking its own cells, instead of attacking viruses in the body. There are many causes for this kind of disease but one of the main reasons is proven to be “chronic stress.”

It seems like our bodies is designed to closely monitor our mental health and stress level. It is proven scientifically, when we get stressed, toxic wastes gets built up and when they are not taken care of well, they are “dumped” to one of our organs. That is why many times high stress is associated with many organ dysfunctions.

Sad news is that trying to not get stressed does not work. Positive thinking does not help you to get rid of stress. But good news is that we have a person where we can “dump” our stress onto, and his name is Jesus.

Bible says “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). The word “cast” literally means “to throw upon” and the picture we can imagine is us throwing away our garbage onto a huge garbage bin. God did not create our body for stress and that is why when our body is stressed, it produces all kinds of unwanted problems.

“Dump” all your anxiety on Jesus in your prayer – he knows how to take care of them. Spend some time reading God’s Word and replace your worries and negative thoughts with His promises for your future. Sing praise songs in your own time to cultivate God’s presence in your life. Best part is he cares about you more than you care about yourself. I hope we all maintain this attitude: “Stress is His, Rest is mine.” Resting is ultimate form of trust in God’s goodness and faithfulness.
