402. Global Reset

402. Global Reset

The political landscape is changing very rapidly. To be sure, this post is not a political commentary or expression of my political view. But it doesn’t take much to notice that when we look at the election of a new US president and the current chaos in the Canadian government. I want to share what I personally sense God is doing in the world.

Scripture tells us that all authorities are from God. (Rom 13:1) It does not mean all “people” in authority are godly, but the authority and leadership that are given to them are gifts from God (irrespective of merit) and need to be stewarded well. It is natural for Christians to desire to see Christian leaders in politics. So many Christians care too much whether the new leader is a genuine Christian or not. But I think that what is more important than the leader being a Christian is whether the leader can execute sound policies and guard traditional family values, irrespective of their religion.

It is evident in the scripture that God uses ungodly nations and pagan kings to accomplish his purpose. For example, God used violent and ruthless Assyria as an instrument to discipline the nation of Israel. (Isaiah 10:7-19) God used Persian king Cyrus (the Great) to facilitate the return of Jewish exiles to their land and the rebuilding of the second temple in Jerusalem. This unprecedented act was prophesied in Isaiah 45:1, God calling Cyrus as YHWH’s anointed. Imagine how surprised King Cyrus was to find his name written in a book (and his job description) written 150 years before he was born! God can certainly use not-so-moral or virtuous leaders to bring about his plan, even today.

No political leaders will be perfect. But by looking at the policies that are to be enforced and values that will be promoted in the new US presidential term, I can sense that God is using the new president as a global “wrecking ball” to bring a global reset on many anomalies and toxic values that were introduced recently. What I look forward to the most is seeing the restoration of “common sense”. Saying that there are only two genders used to be a commonsensical view, irrespective of one’s religion. But it is now viewed as not only abnormal but narrow-minded and bigoted. Today, many people feel that genuine, free discussions are not allowed, but only one set of ideologies is pushed down on them. Those who do not agree are easily “cancelled.” This cancel culture has poisoned many young people’s minds today and has reduced the value of post-secondary education. I hope to see this reversed. I also look forward to more children being protected from trans-ideologies that expose minors to unnecessary sexual acts (such as drag shows in school) and a life-altering (and threatening) choice. (such as gender-affirming hormone therapy)

The Apostle Paul calls us to pray for those in government leadership. What he tells us to pray for is not for all of them to become Christians, but they would enforce sound policies and guard traditional values so that we can live “a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity”. (1 Tim 2:2)
