405. Coaching Session with Pastor Chai

405. Coaching Session with Pastor Chai
Last year Coaching Session

Last year, I was invited to attend the coaching session with Pastor Chai, along with other Korean-speaking pastors under 50 years old. This time, Jennifer and I are invited to the same coaching session with him, but this time, it will be joined by English-speaking pastors who do house church ministry. It happens from 1/14-17 in a retreat centre in New Mexico. (Located between Arizona and Texas) A total of 6 pastor couples will attend, including us.

Pastor Chai started the house church ministry (as we currently know and practice in our church), and established house church ministry international (HCMI), through which all house church pastors network with each other and receive guidance. Just by spending time with him, I have received golden nuggets of wisdom, not just limited to house church ministry but ministry in general. Given his age and that he is still really busy (he now resides in Korea), I don’t foresee this happening again, so it will certainly be a special moment.

For the coaching session, we are asked to bring one ministry challenge that needs to be addressed to help our church become a more biblical church. After the presentation, other pastors are invited to comment their thoughts on the issue, and Pastor Chai will give concluding remarks or advice. This will repeat for all pastor’s couples, which explains why the session requires a few days. It is based on the “Discipline of Guidance” taught in Transforming Life bible study, a way to discern God’s voice through multiple counsellors.

As it happens in the middle of 10 Days EMP, sermons will be prerecorded and played on video during my absence. I am sad that I cannot finish 10 days of EMP this year, but the schedule was created based on Pastor Chai’s schedule, which is understandable. He is coming to our KSC to lead a revival meeting in February and I will write about that soon in the next blog post.

When God called me into ministry, I had no idea what kind of ministry I would lead. Looking back over the 15 years, I cannot help but feel “overly” blessed to lead a ministry like this and have met many great mentors. I am also looking forward to spending time with like-minded pastors with the same purpose of restoring the New Testament church. Please pray for a safe and meaningful trip when you get a chance.
