409. Revival Meeting Recap

The revival meeting with Pastor Chai ended last Sunday. I was happy to see that many of The Seed’s members attended. Pastor Chai said he was pleased to see ESC (English-speaking Congregation) members present, as it was unusual and a sign of a healthy church. I believe this is possible because both congregations work toward the same goal with the same spirit: to restore the New Testament through house church ministry.

As Pastor Chai requested, this revival meeting was primarily focused on inviting VIPs. I did not emphasize this to ESC because the message would be in Korean, and I know listening to a translated message is not the best experience. However, I was told that 38 VIPs attended the meeting, and a few of them were from ESC.

As I was simultaneously translating in the sound booth at the back, I had to be very attentive to the message. Even though I was busy translating, I still felt blessed by the messages I heard. Those who speak decent Korean shared that they were blessed and challenged by the messages, so I was glad to hear the response.

The main reason for inviting ESC members to this KSC revival meeting even on Sunday was my desire to give our congregation an opportunity to hear from Pastor Chai “in person”. He is now retired and due to his age, there is a bigger generational gap with his audience. But we don’t get a chance like this very often to hear from a spiritual “senior” like him, who has not only led a healthy church modelled after ones all over the world but also devoted his life to restoring New Testament church even long after retirement.

In the last session, Pastor Chai encouraged us that our church has the potential to serve as a model for house church ministry to other churches, not just in North America but globally. Along with this, he also challenged us to dream of undertaking initiatives that extend beyond our capacity, to give God a chance to exercise his miraculous power and use us beyond our potential. A few members shared that the charge inspired them, and I recognized again the special favour that rests upon our church. It is easy to underestimate ourselves since we are a small church in a small town, but God uses the weak to shame the strong. This revival confirmed that I have many reasons to be grateful, particularly being part of our church and doing house church ministry.
